Court Piece online: your questions

Everything people ask about the rules, the variants, playing with friends, the ranked ladder and what the app does with your data.

The game

What is Court Piece?

A trick-taking card game for four players in two fixed partnerships, played with a standard 52-card deck. One player names a trump suit after seeing only five cards, thirteen tricks are then played out, and the first partnership to seven tricks wins the hand. The game explained in full.

Is Court Piece the same as Rung, Rang, Coat Piece and Hokm?

Yes — these are regional names for the same game. Rang and rung mean the trump suit in Punjabi and Urdu; coat piece and coat pees are how “court piece” is usually pronounced; hokm is the Persian name. All the names, by region.

How many players does Court Piece need?

Four, in two teams of two, with partners sitting opposite. Online, bots can fill any seat nobody takes, so you never have to assemble three other people first.

Who chooses the trump suit?

The player to the dealer’s right, after seeing only their first five cards. They also lead the first trick. If their team wins the hand, the same player calls again next hand; the deal only moves on when the calling team loses.

How many tricks do you need to win?

Seven of thirteen takes the hand. If the losing side is still on zero when the seventh trick is taken, play continues, because a 13–0 sweep — a kot — is still possible and worth double.

What are Double Sir and Band Hukam?

Optional house rules. In Double Sir won tricks stay in the middle until one player wins two tricks in a row and sweeps the pile. In Band Hukam only the caller knows the trump suit, until the first card of it is played. Both explained in detail.

Playing RUNG

Is RUNG free?

Yes, free to download and free to play, supported by advertising. There are no in-app purchases — coins are earned by playing and buy cosmetics such as card backs, table felts, avatars and reactions.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can play immediately as a guest and the game remembers you on that device. Signing in with Google or an email address is optional, and only exists so your rank, coins and friends move with you to a new phone.

How do I play with my own friends?

Create a private room, set the house rules, and share the five-character room code or the invite link on WhatsApp. Anyone who opens the link lands straight at your table. Step by step.

Can I play with only two or three people?

Yes. Add a bot to any seat your group cannot fill, at easy, medium or hard. The bots follow the same rules and see only what a player in that seat would see.

Can I play Court Piece offline?

Yes. Practice mode runs entirely on your device against bots, including the variants, so it works in airplane mode. Practice never affects your rating. More on practice mode.

What happens if my internet drops during a match?

The match lives on the server, so nothing is lost. A bot covers your turns while you are away, and when you reconnect you get your seat, your cards and the real score back exactly as they were.

Are the bots cheating?

They cannot. A bot asks the game engine for the view of the seat it is sitting in — the same view the app gets — and there is no interface that returns more. It cannot see other hands or the undealt deck, and with Band Hukam on it does not know the trump suit unless it called it.

How long does a match take?

A hand is a few minutes; a match is first to two points, so usually two or three hands — roughly five to ten minutes. A kot wins a match outright.

Ranks and progression

How does ranking work?

Every ranked match moves an Elo rating, computed on the server. You start at 1000 — Silver III — and climb through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Master, each with three divisions except Master. Ranks and seasons in full.

Do private rooms and practice count towards my rank?

No. Only Quick Play ranked matches move your rating, so a group of friends cannot farm rating off each other.

When do seasons reset?

Monthly. Leaderboards are scored inside the current season, while your rating, tier, lifetime stats and achievements carry across.

What are coins for?

Cosmetics: card backs, table felts, avatars and reactions. They are earned from matches, daily missions and achievements, and they cannot be bought with money or cashed out for it.

The app and your data

Which devices does RUNG run on?

Android 7.0 and newer, as about a 2.8 MB download. A browser version is in testing and will run on any modern browser, including Safari on iPhone. Download details.

Is there an iPhone app?

Not yet. Android is live and the browser version, which works in Safari, is the route that will reach iPhone first.

Is Court Piece available in Urdu?

Yes. The app interface is available in English and Urdu (اردو).

Does RUNG involve gambling?

No. There is no betting, no wagering, no real-money stakes and no way to cash anything out. Coins are in-game currency for cosmetics only.

What data does RUNG collect, and can I delete it?

Your display name, an account id, match results and progression — plus an email address only if you choose to sign in with one. It asks for no contacts, photos, location or microphone access. You can delete your account from inside Settings, and export everything held about you from the same screen. Privacy policy.

Something is broken, or I have a suggestion. Who do I tell?

Email haideryzai2@gmail.com. Bug reports with a screenshot and the version number from Settings are genuinely useful and do get read.

Still deciding?

It is free, it needs no sign-up, and a table fills in seconds. The quickest way to answer the rest of your questions is to play a hand.
